Second place was not on the mind of the Ringgold Boys Cross Country Team as they lined up Wednesday, October 28th at White Oak Park, however, that is what they were ultimately left with after a hard fought race against several standout teams.
With this year’s new protocol due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, only the top team from each district of the PIAA will advance to the state championship meet.
The Ringgold boys were led by freshman Ryan Pajak and seniors Lucas Pajak and Ben Daerr, all of whom were WPIAL medalists and qualified as individuals for the 2020 PIAA State Championships. Juniors Lorenzo Zeni and Nick Whaley also performed well with both placing highly. Ringgold fell by six points to the team from Greensburg Salem.
The Ringgold boys performed well all season, going undefeated until their loss on Wednesday. Coach Jennifer McMichael was proud, calling the boys her “dream team”, and remains optimistic for the future.
Many of the boys will be competing in indoor and outdoor track and field; it might be wise to keep an eye on these talents.
